Adoptable Dogs

Before you fall in love with one of our dogs (its difficult not to), have you filled out an application? At this time, visitors at our shelter are limited to those who have submitted an app.

Adena

1 year old, 45 lb. female
Shepherd/Am. Staff Mix

Adena is convinced she’s the perfect size for a lap dog. She’s all about the snuggles. When she’s not cozying up in your lap, Adena’s burning off her energy by racing around the yard with a serious case of the zoomies.

Adena is incredibly smart and responsive. She’s already mastered sit and lay down and stays put until she hears her release word. She is eager to learn and ready to tackle new commands and tricks that can make her humans happy!

She enjoys her walks at the park with our volunteers and is looking for her forever adventure partner!

Even though she’s an energetic pup, she settles nicely in her crate and knows when it’s time to rest.

Puddin Pop

2 year old, 45 lb. female
Mixed Breed

Puddin Pop is a spunky little charmer with a zest for life that’s as irresistible as her name!

Puddin Pop always has a spring in her step. She’s got the energy for a game of tug and loves to play chase with other pups but when indoors, she settles very nicely. She rarely makes a peep and doesn’t have accidents in her crate.

Puddin Pop adores her walks and can even make a rainy day fun – she’ll splash in every puddle she sees. Anyone looking for a water dog?!

During play time, Puddin can get mouthy when overstimulated so she is likely not the best fit for young kids but could be a lot of fun for teenagers. The good news is that she is enthusiastic about training and a quick learner! Puddin Pop knows how to sit and is learning how to lay down. With consistency in a forever home, her mouthy play behavior should improve!

Puddin Pop can be shy and uncertain when meeting some men but warms up fairly quickly with some patience. We have male volunteers at the shelter that she has not had a problem with at all.

Other Dogs

Dog social - plays best with dogs who are tolerant of rough play

Annabelle

4 year old, 45 lb. female
Coonhound

Annabelle is our silly hound girl looking for her forever. She loves to be outside in our play yard chasing after toys, playing with a dog friend, or telling the bunnies in the backyard to get off her lawn! 😂

If you spend time with Annabelle when she’s in the yard with other pups, she is energetic & fun. One-on-one time with Annabelle will get you cuddles & kisses. Her personality brings you the best of both worlds.

She would make a great adventure buddy to explore trails with. You might have to stop a few times though while she checks out her surroundings with her trusty nose.
Other Dogs

Dog social - she plays nicely with others. She has had a few dog friends at our shelter and is non-reactive when on walks. No small dogs please!

Luma

3 year old, 30 lb. female
Dachshund mix

If you’re wondering what kind of mix Luma is, just take a look at those legs and feet, and we will give you ONE guess….She’s a Dachshund mix!

Those short legs and classic weenie stance are a dead give away, especially when looking down on her from up high, or how long her body is from the side!

Luma is a huge love bug! She’s very sweet, and gives lots of kisses. She will even let you scoop her up, and hold her in your lap while you sit on the ground, so that you can give her kisses on her forehead and tell her how sweet and beautiful she is!!

Luma is very food motivated. If you have a treat, she has her eyes on you, and waits for you to tell her how to get that treat! She seems to know how to sit on command, and will likely be easy to train, because of how treat and human focused she is! She’s eager to please!

Luma also loves to plays fetch and chase around a tennis ball, even if she doesn’t bring it back every time! Bouncing the ball and throwing it around does get her very excited and interested! We just love how teenie-tiny her legs are, and her long body is so cute!

She’s on the smaller side, considering the other dogs we usually have at Lighthouse.

She’s dog social, and is currently besties with another adoptable dog at the shelter, Shane!

Cole

4-year-old, 66 lb. male
Mixed Breed

Cole is looking for his next new best pal! He has a fun energy level and seems to feed off of whatever the human he is with wants to do. Want to play? He will play. Want to bring him in? He will go right inside. Want to cuddle? He will plop right in your lap for all the lovin’ he can soak in!

Cole would make a great companion for someone looking for a copilot for all their adventures but wanting a snuggle buddy at night.

We assume this boy is house-trained as we’ve never had to clean up after him and he also does very well in a crate! Even though he has the biggest, goofiest personality, Cole is quiet all day unless he can hear that his favorite dog walker is at the shelter!

Cole loves every human that he meets but would be a little too much energy for small kiddos. He can be jumpy when he’s excited to see his people.

Other Dogs

Cole is dog selective - he has successfully been on walks with other dogs after a slow introduction.

Bruin

2 year old, 37 lb. male
Terrier Mix

Bruin’s had quite the journey, starting off in rough shape but now showing his silly, affectionate side to our volunteers! He’s a real cuddle bug once he warms up to you, especially if there’s a tennis ball involved for some outdoor fun.

He’s still shy & wary around new folks and tends to stick close to his favorite humans for comfort, which is super cute but can make him anxious when they’re not around. This little dude needs to work more on some confidence building so he can learn to be an independent, happy pup!

Bruin is a smart boy and quick to learn new things especially if you incorporate a little bit of training into his play sessions.

Now, he’s ready for his forever family – a person or family who’ll appreciate his sweet, affectionate nature and give him the patience he deserves. An all-adult home where he can continue to blossom would be perfect for him.

Other Dogs

Dog social - He has enjoyed playing with every dog we've introduced him to. He likes to chase (he's super fast!) and wrestle. He plays best with dogs who match his energy level.

Cats

Bruin was on a volunteer transport to get from NC to MA. About half way through the trip, the dogs sleep over at a volunteer's house before heading the rest of the way the next day. At Bruin's sleepover, the home had cats and he did well with them.

Now that Bruin has settled in here at Lighthouse, we tested him with the cats here. He was curious, investigated them with caution, and tried to play. He was easy to redirect his playful attention off of them though so we feel that he could live with cats with just a little bit of guidance.

Freckles

3 year old, 47 lb. female
Hound Mix

Meet Freckles, the ultimate hound adventurer! This sniff-happy pup lives for outdoor fun and long walks, though she will need to learn leash manners (she’s got a nose for every scent!).

She is quiet in her room for the majority of the day as long as there isn’t too much hustle and bustle going on! If there is a lot of commotion, that’s when she will let out her hound howl. Otherwise, you’ll find her nestled in her bed with a pile of blankets.

Freckles was in a home for about 3 weeks and returned due to no fault of her own but it did allow us to learn a little more about Freckles! Her former adopters let us know that she is house-trained and well-behaved in a home setting. They have grandchildren (ages 6+) and Freckles was friendly when they visited.

In addition to being house-trained, Freckles is crate-trained and knows how to sit.

Shane

1 year old, 45 lb. male
Terrier Mix

Meet Shane!

He’s a sturdy boy, who loves to play, and is very energetic. He will chase after whatever toy you throw for him and bring it back to you to throw again!

If he’s outside with his current doggie best friend, Luma, they have endless fun chasing each other and wrestling around.

He’s so friendly and constantly makes us laugh! He’s still very young, and seems like such a happy-go-lucky pupper

!He’s very excited to see people, and wants lots of love, so he does sometimes jump up on you to get attention. Because of this, he will need to work on his manners. He also doesn’t seem to know any commands yet, but will listen and come when you call out to him. Luckily, he is VERY VERY food motivated, so we think he will be easy to train!

We just met Shane and are still getting to know him, but so far we love him a lot!

Bo

2 year old, 55 lb. male
Pittie/Terrier Mix

Bo finds playful moments & snuggly moments equally important! He loves to romp after a tennis ball in the yard and have fun with both people & dogs, but he also knows how to take advantage of some downtime by just chillin’ with his people in the yard.

Bo is food-motivated, loves to make his people happy, and is ready to learn new things with his forever family. He’s a smart boy who catches on to new commands quickly.

Bo is house-trained but crate time can be stressful for him. He gets anxious when left alone in the crate for too long so he will need a patient, kind family who will give Bo time to adjust to a new schedule.

We adore Bo and know that you will too!

Other Dogs

Dog social - he has a dog pal at the shelter right now. He likes to play chase and wrestle!

Jimmy Buffet

Cats

Jimmy was tested once at our shelter with cats. We don't currently have cats that are ideal for testing (they are all afraid of dogs at the moment and keep their distance). We walked Jimmy into the cat room and he was able to observe them from a distance. He was indifferent, a little anxious, and ready to leave the room.

Wren

3 year old, 42 lb. female
She is very underweight so will weigh more!
Hound Mix

Wren is a total sweetheart. She’s very affectionate and cuddly so in an attempt to be as close to you as possible, she may jump up to say hello. We’ll be working on those greeting manners but luckily in the meantime, she is very gentle about it! Wren learns new things quickly. She’s learned how to sit and lay down and is learning how to hold those commands too!

Wren’s silly side comes out when you play with her especially if you have a tennis ball for her to chase after or a rope toy for her to throw around. She’s a goofy girl who is always making us laugh. If you just want to chill and hangout, Wren is happy to sunbathe with you too.

She is still learning the ropes when it comes to accidents indoors and will need a patient family that can provide her with consistency.

Wren walks well on a leash when not distracted by her hound nose! She enjoys walking with our volunteers and can’t wait to go on adventures with her forever family!

Other Dogs

Dog social - loves to wrestle!

Sweetie

2 year old, 40 lb. female
Mixed Breed

Sweetie – That’s a name she doesn’t respond to but no matter how much you would like to change it, it’s just so fitting you’ll find yourself naturally calling her Sweetie anyway.

She loves to play, chase and wrestling amongst her favorites, but she will also chase after a ball even though she doesn’t know what to do with it once she’s caught it.

Bring her inside and she’s so well behaved, she will go in her crate without you even needing to ask and she is perpetually asking for pets and snuggles so you can’t stop loving on her.

She never reacts poorly to toys or food being taken away, but she gets jealous – if someone else is getting love and she isn’t and will come lick your face in response or if another dog takes her bone she will wait until they are done and take it back.

On a leash she’s an angel, walks near you, doesn’t react to things around her, and will go wherever she is led.

She is still working on commands, she sometimes sits, she jumps up on people but knows to immediately get down when she hears ‘off’, and if you tell her ‘no’ then its a no.

The ability of her to play hard and snuggle harder makes her the perfect balance for someone who needs another dog, she would be fine solo but she loves to play and interact with other dogs so she would be happiest with siblings.

She can be trusted alone in the house, she won’t chew or destroy anything, blankets may not be in the same spot they were but no damage.

Cats

Sweetie has been tested twice with cats our shelter. The first time she was tested with a cat who does not mind interacting directly with dogs. Sweetie was interested in her but also a little cautious and nervous so we kept the test short. Since then, that cat has been adopted and the rest of our cats are all afraid of dogs and keep their distance. We walked Sweetie into the cat room and she was able to observe them from a distance. She was indifferent to cats during this test.

Parker

5 year old, 63 lb. male
Terrier Mix

Parker is a goofy boy who will greet you with a full-body wiggle. He will definitely show you his belly and invite you to play. Parker loves outdoor activities like playing fetch, tug, or going for long walks.

If you spend one-on-one time with Parker in his room, you’ll get yourself a face full of kisses. He’s not a shy boy when it comes to affection.

Parker knows a few basic commands, is food motivated, and is eager follow your direction to learn more. Parker is house-trained and well-behaved in a home setting.

Other Dogs

He has successfully played with others, but right now Parker needs a quiet break from other canines. The shelter setting was too stressful for Parker and he was starting to display reactivity toward other dogs.

He was indifferent to the cats for the majority of the test until one cat jumped off of a cat tree and he began to bark at that cat. We can test him again to try to get a better idea of how he is.

Sawyer

7 year old, 94 lb. male
He is overweight so will weigh less
Lab Mix

Sawyer is a large Labrador retriever mix that loves people and warms up very quickly. Our volunteers say he seeks cuddles when in the play yard and does the doggy lean into them whenever he can.

When Sawyer’s original owner lost their housing, another family took him in temporarily. He was then surrendered to a shelter in SC when his new family felt they couldn’t provide the exercise that a fun, goofy guy like Sawyer needs. He is overweight so he will really benefit from daily exercise & playtime.

We suspect that Sawyer hasn’t spent much time exploring new places. He likely spent the majority of his life sheltered in a home and his own backyard. Sawyer would like a forever family that will show him new places and work on loose leash walking! When in new places, Sawyer needs guidance from a kind, confident person to show him the way and help him process the new environment full of new smells, sounds and sights!

This gentleman is crate and house-trained.

Other Dogs

The family who had Sawyer stated that he is docile with other dogs despite his size.

Cats

He has lived in a home with cats. His previous family said that he playfully chased the cats in their home so dog-savvy cats may be best. We can test him again at our shelter as well.

Bambi

2 year old, 39 lb. female
She is underweight – she will weigh more!
Hound Mix

Bambi is goofy, silly, hilarious…basically, any word that means she’ll keep you laughing!

She’s an outgoing, sweet pup with the volunteers. She may need to work on her manners (she jumps up to say hello) but she is food-motivated and eager to make people happy so she should learn quickly with some consistency in her forever home!

This girl’s tail is always wagging. She is generally quiet in her crate unless she is feeling playful…then, she’ll “talk” to us, roll around in her crate, and show us her belly.

Bambi would love a forever family that will take her on fun adventures but one that also prioritizes some snuggle time. She will need to work on her house training.

Other Dogs

Dog social - she plays with another pup at our shelter. She loves to romp with others and doesn't mind some rough wrestling either.

Cats

Bambi was tested once with cats at our shelter. She was slightly playful but didn't display any concerning behaviors. She could live with cats who are okay with playful dogs.

Zoe

4 year old, 45 lb. female
Mixed Breed

Zoe is a beautiful, sweet girl who is house trained and crate trained. She is super athletic, agile & smart! She loves to be outside playing fetch or going on long walks but settles nicely inside for down time and cuddling.

She is incredibly devoted & loyal to her people. When she sees someone that she loves, her little nub tail doesn’t stop wagging and all she wants to do is for you to say hi to her and welcome her into your lap. Once you have her trust, there is no turning back! She is loyal and will always greet you with a smile on her face.

Zoe was insecure about meeting new people when she first arrived at Lighthouse. She has gotten much more confident with strangers but her forever family should still be considerate and aware of her feelings when she meets someone new.

Training

Zoe has been to professional training so she knows commands such as sit, down, stay, come and also knows some fun ones like how to give a high five. She's a happy girl when she gets to show off her tricks & quickly learns new ones.

Other Dogs

Zoe has made a lot of dog friends at Lighthouse (loves to play chase!) but it's all on her own terms - she appreciates a slow intro and she will let the other dogs know that she is the queen so she plays best with dogs who accept corrections.

Cats

Zoe has lived with a cat before but she does chase. If she were to live with a cat, they would need to be very dog-savvy.

Our dog adoption program focuses on adult & senior dogs.
